Kimi is the assistant from Moonshot AI, and the Chinese assistant that has invested most in long-document handling. Upload a few hundred thousand characters and ask questions, and it locates specific passages and connects information across chapters more reliably than most alternatives at this price. It is well suited to research summaries and working through reference material.

Its Chinese reads naturally, usually without needing the word order fixed afterwards. Web search works inside China, which makes it more practical for Chinese-language sources than international models that cannot reach domestic sites at all. The web version is free and reachable from mainland China without any additional setup.

The gap is in reasoning depth: multi-step derivations and problems needing a strict logical chain still fall short of the frontier models. Code is not its strength either — it is best treated as a helper for reading material and writing Chinese.
