Coze

Coze is ByteDance’s platform for building AI agents; the mainland China edition is called 扣子 (Kouzi) and the international edition goes by Coze. Its core pitch is that you can build a bot with a knowledge base, plugins and workflows without writing code, then publish it to Feishu, WeChat Official Accounts, the web and more.

Under the hood you can pick ByteDance’s own Doubao models among others, and the plugin store and templates are extensive — common abilities like web search, image generation and reading web pages mostly come as ready-made plugins. Getting from nothing to a working support bot or assistant is quick, often an afternoon’s work.

Think of it as AI building blocks for non-specialists: low barrier and fast results, but a ceiling on customisation. It is ideal for non-engineers such as operations and product people validating an idea.

How to use

2. Create a new agent, write its persona and response requirements, and choose a model.
3. Add knowledge base documents and plugins as needed; for more involved logic, build a workflow and reference it from the agent.
4. Test repeatedly in the debug panel and tweak the prompt and settings.
5. Pick your publishing channels, complete authorisation, and keep iterating based on real conversations after launch.

Best for

• Support and FAQ bots: Attach product docs as a knowledge base and cover common questions quickly.
• WeChat account or community assistants: Publishes straight into the WeChat ecosystem, no integration work required.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

Limitations

• Complex business logic gets awkward in a visual editor, and at that point teams usually move to code or a self-hosted stack.
• Apps and data are hosted on the platform, so data-sensitive companies need to assess compliance risk.
• Available models and channels are subject to platform policy, and the China and international editions do not have identical features.
